In this thought-provoking presentation, David Mercer will argue that Tizen, Roku, Android TV, Fire TV and possibly other television OS/platforms will be able to control most, or even all, the television functions consumers need. The implication is that traditional Pay TV and free-to-air platforms will see their relative importance decline. You will hear the rationale for why we will see a transition from operator-managed to Internet- and device-managed platforms, and from managed video services that are tied to communications platforms to services based on the open Internet. The potential effects for the whole television ecosystem are explored, including the role of content providers and regulation.
