Vodafone Spain has been demonstrating what a next-generation Pay TV service looks like, complementing its channels and VOD with a growing number of ‘onboarded’ streaming services including Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, HBO España, Eurosport Player, ATRESPlayer Premium and Acorn TV. We find out how this growing portfolio of apps is impacting viewing habits, and if ‘super-aggregation’ is persuading viewers to stay within the expanded Vodafone TV universe for longer. This interview considers the value that a Pay TV operator brings to streaming services that are onboarded, and how far ‘super-aggregation’ of apps can, or should, scale. You will also hear how Vodafone Spain is making TV more personal and improving content discovery, including the role of the operator-supplied Átika smart speaker and intelligent assistant, which responds to TV voice commands. Finally, we take a look at the increasingly popular STB-less option for Spanish homes, where the Vodafone TV App is used as the gateway to the TV service. Has ‘box-less’ expanded the market for Vodafone TV? And how do you chracterise ‘box-less’ customers?
